Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL) is the largest state-owned telecommunications company in Bangladesh, providing a range of services including landline telephone, internet, and data communication services. ​

Historical Overview:

• 1853: The foundation of telecommunications in the region was laid with the establishment of the Telegraph branch under the Posts and Telegraph Department during British India. ​

• 1971: Following Bangladesh’s independence, the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Department was formed under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications. ​

• 1975: This department was restructured into the Telegraph and Telephone Board.

• 1979: It was further reorganized as the Bangladesh Telegraph and Telephone Board (BTTB). ​

• 2008: On July 1, BTTB was transformed into a public limited company, adopting the name Bangladesh Telecommunications Company Limited (BTCL). ​
