At the beginning of the 21st century, the present-day Dhaka City College, located on Dhanmondi Road No. 2, the heart of the capital, was established in 1957 as Dhaka City Night College.

Its journey began in the limited scope of West End High School, and after a long half-century, its position in the education world of Bangladesh is strong and leading. After staying on the Dhaka College campus for a while in the 60s, the college started its activities at its current location in the 70s.

Soon after Principal Professor Md. Hafiz Uddin took charge in 1977, the new journey of the modern Dhaka City College began. After successfully serving as the Principal for 33 years, the renowned educationist Professor Md. Hafiz Uddin passed away on December 29, 2009 while working.

We call Principal Md. Hafiz Uddin as the ‘architect of modern Dhaka City College’.

With the inspiration and cooperation of former Dhaka Divisional Commissioner Khan Alam Khan, former Chairman of the College Governing Body, two large buildings were built by 1989. Meanwhile, the construction of another building was completed.

In 1991, the morning branch was started for female students, excluding the night branch. A groundbreaking change was initiated in the management of the college’s educational support activities through the introduction of a non-political student council in 1992.

Meanwhile, two places were purchased with the college’s own funds. One is a 13-katha land adjacent to the college on which a 6-storey building has been constructed. The other is a one-bigha land on Dhanmondi 3/A Road. The construction of a six-storey building has been completed on which the construction work of the six-storey building has been completed.

In addition, the benefits of introducing semester courses and examination systems at the undergraduate and higher secondary levels have been flowing since 1980. The best proof of this is that a large number of students have been placed in the merit list every year in various board and university level examinations since 1984.

The recent introduction of the grading system in the board examination has shown that the highest number of students in the business and science departments have achieved GPA 5.
