Manikganj Government Technical School and College (formerly Vocational Training Institute). Manikganj district town is located adjacent to the main road (Shaheed Smarani). With the acquisition of 3.24 acres of land by the Department of Technical Education in 1973, the technical training program (6 months basic course) was started in this institution with the appointment of Superintendent in 1974.

From 1990 to 1995, the Government of Bangladesh conducted a study on how these government agencies could play a role in creating skilled manpower. According to the survey report, SSC Vocational Courses were introduced in 1995 and HSC Vocational Courses in 1996. In order to increase the rate of technical education, the Government of Bangladesh has introduced 4 trades instead of 2 trades and increasing the number of seats from 20 to 40 and double shift instead of one shift and introduced Diploma in Engineering courses from 2016. In 2004, the name of the institute was changed to Vocational Training Institute and Manikganj Tacrum (6 months basic course) was started.
